Sadly, We Have a Sick Puppy

One of our founding members, Aniela McGuinness, of Sick Puppies Comedy got some bad news this week.  She's been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Sadly, this isn't surprising news for this Sick Puppy.  She's been getting checked every six months since she was confirmed for having the BRCA1 genetic mutation that almost guaranteed she would eventually get cancer.  In fact, according to her blog " I finally decided to get a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy to reduce my risk of getting breast cancer. I was even filming a Video Blog series called "My Breast Choice" following the process."    McGuinness did something brave.  She recorded the moment she received her biopsy results.  See below.  I recommend you watch somewhere private.  It's not easy, but it's important.  It's important to get yourself checked.  She caught it early, but the pain is still there.[youtube]Aniela is a dear friend.  She's as close to a sister as you can get without actually being related.  I hate that she is going through this, but I'm glad that the cast, students and improv community have wrapped around her like a warm blanket.  In the coming months, Aniela will continue to show her progress as she goes down this road.  Pay attention.  You'll get to see strength and resolve so maybe you'll know what to do if it's you or someone you know. She's strong and persistent.  She's one of the most talented actors I've ever shared the stage with.  She will overcome this and in doing so bring more awareness to this awful disease.  We are here for you Aniela.  We love you.
